Congratulations to our Boys' Team, 2006 'A'
Division Champions!
Brook Hill, which
joined the New Jersey Junior Tennis Association (NJJTA) in 2003, took home its second 'A' Division league title by winning
the boys 15s 'A' Division crown. Brook Hill finished ahead of Noe Pond and Westfield for the team title.
As for the individual championships, Bobby Gorczakowski was a finalist in the boys 15s singles tournament and combined with
Garrett Blaber to win the doubles.
Erik Claussen was beaten in the quarterfinals in the singles
and the semifinals of the doubles with partner, A.J. Bova.
The boys 18s consolation final
was an ''All Brook Hill event'' as Adam Vidal
turned back Jason Scalera in a marathon three-set final.
Others contributing to Brook Hills' success were Mike Reagan, Damon Major, A.J. Bova, Matt English, Harrison Yu and Jay Shah.
Brook Hill was receipient of the NJJTA ``Exemplary Club 2006`` award. We were one of several clubs to earn that
distinction.
Coach Gordon was quite proud of his team, stating ``What I found most rewarding
was the outstanding character my players displayed throughout the season. Every club we played made note of our sportsmanship."
He explained
that, ``Paul Annacone, who used to coach Pete Sampras, once said that us coaches must always remember that once the player
retires from tennis, the person remains.``
This statement
has inspired his coaching philosophy, that ``We
coach individuals here at Brook Hill not tennis players.``
