Brook Hill opened its tennis season in fine fashion scoring victories
over the Glen Ridge Country Club and Noe Pond in boys 18-and-under competition.
Bobby Gorczakowski, Jay Shah and Erik Claussen combined to loss a handful of games during a 3-0 victory over
Glen Ridge Tuesday at Brook Hill in a A division match. Brian Liebeskind and James Rocco scored victories to lead Brook
Hill over Noe Pond C team, 2-1, in Chatham.
Gorczakowski,
Shah and Claussen are coming off outstanding performances for the respective varsity high school tennis teams this past
spring. Gorczakowski led Basking Ridge to the No. 6 ranking in the state. He won the Somerset County first doubles title
and was the 2008 NJSIAA State high school doubles finalist.
Shah put together a 21-2 record, reaching the Union county final at third singles for nearby Governor Livingston.
Shah plans to compete this fall for Union College in New York, where he has been accepted into a five-year premedical
program. Claussen was voted most improved playing second singles for Watchung Hills varsity tennis team.
All three boys practice and train at the refurbished courts at
Brook Hill Swim and Tennis Club. Claussen was one of the first boys to sign up for the summer junior clinics at Brook Hill.
Today, he's a top ranked player, who hopes to play collegiate tennis.
Brook Hill will play host to Lake Valhalla in a boys 18s A division match Tuesday. Teammates Gorczakowski, Shah,
Claussen and Jason Scalera will square off this week to determine the top three singles positions.
```It's a competitive and everyone wants to make the A team,`` said head
pro Gordon Paul, who coaches all four boys privately. ``I'm more concerned with them trying to improve and working
on the things that need to be addressed.``
Bobby Gorczakowski, Erik Claussen and Jason Scalera each turned in sparkling efforts at singles
to lead Brook Hill to a 3-0 victory over Lake Valhalla Tuesday at Brook Hill. Gorczakowski
and Claussen, the 2007 NJJTA 15-and-under doubles champions, played well to register straight-set victories at first
and second singles. Scalera won in three sets at third singles. Brook Hill will face Noe Pond Tuesday in Chatham while the
B team plays host to Colony Beach and Tennis Club.
